Discover the Panasonic Lumix FZ80 / FZ82 Digital Camera

Today, we want to discuss the benefits of the Panasonic Lumix FZ80 / FZ82 digital camera. This design is a bridge camera. It’s an “all in one” model which is simple to use, despite its high-tech functionality. If you want to move your photography skills forward, you’ll find that choosing this Lumix camera from Panasonic is the key to improving…fast!

Now, we’d talk about all of the things that make this camera such a standout.

Main Features and Benefits

This model offers plenty of bang for the buck, thanks to its user-friendly controls, its optical zoom (which is very powerful) and its LCD display, which is touch-sensitive. As well, it provides superb image stabilization. Every digital camera has some drawbacks. In our opinion, the key “con” of this model is the lack of an eye sensor for the electronic viewfinder. If you don’t mind forgoing this feature, you may find that the advantages of this model greatly outweigh its downside.

Despite its missing eye sensor for the EVF, this camera is definitely loaded with appealing and practical features. For example, it’s got an articulated screen, which is rare at its “budget superzoom” price point, as well as 4K video capability and superlative zoom. If you don’t want to spend a fortune on a bridge camera, you’ll find that it offers great features and an intuitive interface/controls, without costing a bundle.

This model is equipped with 4K photo capability and 4K video, as well as video modes which are high-res. We love its CMOS sensor, which minimizes the risk of “blooming”, as well as its back touchscreen, which offers 1040k-dots. The electronic viewfinder provides 1170 dots. Also, the zoom on this model is impressive (20-1200mm equivalent 60X).

Is This Camera Right for You?

Before you invest in a bridge camera, make sure that a bridge camera is right for you! This type of camera has been around for about ten years and it functions as “bridge” between a small point-and-shoot camera and a DSLR with all of the bells and whistles. We do think that the Panasonic Lumix FZ80/FZ82 is a great bridge camera. Like most good bridge cameras, it has some manual settings and controls, along with the user-friendliness of “snapshot” designs. You won’t be able to swap the lens with this camera. Bridge cameras aren’t designed to have interchangeable lenses.

Why Choose a DSLR, Anyway?

DSLR stands for digital single-lens reflex camera. Some people may refer to this type of camera as a digital SLR camera. When you choose a DSLR, you’ll receive a digital camera which has the mechanism and optics of a single-lens reflex camera, as well as a digital imaging sensor. The scheme for the single-lens reflex is what sets a DLSR apart from other types of digital cameras. The reflex scheme carries light through the lens, towards a mirror. The mirror alternates in order to transmit the image to the image sensor or the viewfinder.

During the 2000s, DSLRs came into the forefront and people began to choose them over film-based single-lens reflex cameras. Although cameras with mirrorless systems have become popular again over the past several years, most people still decide to opt for DSLRs. They are the most popular form of cameras with interchangeable lens capability in usage today.

Now, let’s look at four DSLR styles which offer plenty of bang for the buck!

Develop Your Style with the Canon EOS 6D

Another advantage of choosing this camera is access to its eleven-point autofocus system. The AF system includes a center cross-type autofocus point which is incredibly precise. The AF point has EV-3 sensitivity, so it’s easy to focus the Canon EOS 6D, even in the worst lighting conditions.

Is the Canon EOS 100D SLR Camera Right for You?

If you want to invest in a new digital camera and the idea of owning the world’s smallest digital SLR is appealing, then you’ll benefit from reading this Canon EOS 100D SLR camera review. We’re going to take a look at all of the main features of this popular digital camera, along with its pros and cons.

By offering you a fair and balanced review, we hope to make it easier for you to decide on a new camera. This highly-rated model definitely earns accolades from lots of real-life owners, so there is a chance that this is the digital camera that you’ve been waiting for!

Features of the EOS 100D SLR

Classified as a “mini-DSLR”, this Canon-brand camera is a compact design which is supremely portable. It’s got a lot of the same product specifications as the Canon EOS 650D. For example, it comes with a sensor of the APS-C CMOS type, which features eighteen megapixels for crisp and vibrant resolution.

As well, it is equipped with a focus on the Hybrid AF type, in addition to full high definition video and 4 fps continuous shooting. What makes this digital camera different is its smaller size and scale. It’s a quarter smaller and twenty-eight percent lighter than the 650D. All of the Canon EOS 100D SLR Camera’s components are scaled down in order to make it more compact.

This smaller digital camera is feature-packed for the price. It definitely has plenty to offer in terms of features and its live view focus is quite exceptional, due to phase detection pixels on the appropriate sensor! Also, you’ll find that this model provides great focus while you’re shooting video. Since its focus system will cover eighty percent of your shooting area, you’ll find that capturing amazing video footage is simpler than ever before.

Also, the focus system helps to ensure the most optimal tracking speeds during video recording and live view.

The rear of this camera is equipped with a three-inch touch screen which is capacitive. It features one thousand and forty dot resolution. You may utilize this handy touch screen in order to search menus and check out and adjust settings. As well, it functions as a convenient touch shutter which sets a focus point.

Choose Your Preferred Shooting Mode

This camera is versatile, so you’ll have lots of options. Choose Intelligent Auto, Auto, full manual shooting, food mode, kid mode or candlelight mode in order to get the best from every shot! Also, you should know that this camera will give you the power to get tons of creative effects and to preview these effects before you actually take pictures that feature the effects!

In fact, this camera will give you the power to record a couple of versions of each photograph. One will be effect-free and the other will feature the effect.

This feature is great for newbies, as they don’t need to resort to RAW files if effects don’t give the desired results.

Pros and Cons to Consider

This camera’s sensor is pretty standard on Canon models over the past few years, so it’s not ground-breaking, but it certainly works well! In our view, the sensor is a “pro”. As well, this camera is light in weight and very easy to carry and control. It may even fit into a bigger pocket!

However, one drawback of this compact digital camera is that its touchscreen isn’t the most intuitive design around. It’s pretty simple to use, but probably could be a bit more intuitive. Also, you’ll see focus shifting while it’s happening. Some people don’t mind watching the camera focus, while others would rather not see it. So, this could be a pro or con, depending on your own opinion of things!

We Recommend This Camera

Now that you know more about the Canon EOS 100D SLR Camera, why not check it out online? It’s a camera that we’re so comfortable recommending. Its compact size makes it so simple to use and its advantages dramatically outweigh its drawbacks.

Once you’ve tried it, you’ll see that it makes it easy to get amazing video footage and stills. While no digital camera is perfect, this one does have the bells and whistles that most photography buffs are looking for!

Fujifilm X100F 24.3 MP APS-C Digital Camera

Fujifilm X100F digital camera review.

The Fujifilm X100F is easily one of the most beautiful digital cameras to be produced in the last 10 years or so. Fujifilm has absolutely knocked it out when it comes to the X100F digital camera.

The design and overall aesthetic of this Fujifilm camera are very retro-inspired, but don’t be tricked into thinking that this digital camera is just another pretty face. This is a very serious camera designed for photography professionals and amateurs alike, and it’s one of the most impressive options money can buy today!

Overall impression

People are describing the Fujifilm X100F as the “ultimate enthusiast compact camera”, and it’s easy to see why. Filled with top-tier digital camera technology pioneered by the engineers at Fujifilm, this is a camera that has beautiful design, a hybrid viewfinder, unbelievable image quality, a larger battery, and even built-in “film simulation” modes that allow you to shoot new digital photos using vintage film as your medium – or at least that’s how it will appear when your digital photos are uploaded to your computer.

This version has been six years in the making from the folks at Fujifilm, and all agree that they absolutely knocked it right out of the park.
Check Latest Price Special features

There are plenty of special features to get really excited about as part of the X100F, but the most impressive has to be the brand-new CMOS sensor that features 24.3 megapixels and so much light transmission that you’re going to be able to take stunning photographs in almost any light condition – even pitch dark – without any trouble whatsoever.

The 3 inch LCD screen on the back of the camera is going to double as a hybrid viewfinder, but it’s also going to accurately reproduce all of the colors of that your camera is picking up through the lens and the sensor. This not only allows you to rapidly bring your camera into focus on any target you are shooting, but it also guarantees that you are able to get EXACTLY the shot you are looking for without having to fiddle around any.

This hybrid viewfinder is something really special, especially considering the fact that it features 2.36 million dots in the LED display. You will also be able to command and control every aspect of your camera this hybrid viewfinder, using the built-in touchscreen modules to change your exposure, your white balance, your composition, and so much more without ever having to “leave your shot”.

Battery life has improved

The battery life of the Fujifilm X100F is definitely the star of the show with this new camera, and it ranks right up there with the brand-new CMOS sensor as the most important leaps forward that this digital camera has made in embracing new technology.

You’ll be able to fast charge this camera from completely dead to 50% in 30 minutes or less, and you’ll be able to get back up to 100% battery in about 1 ½ hours or so. Combine that with the “runtime” that this camera offers – more than five hours of continuous shooting with no difficulty whatsoever – and you are really looking at something special here.

Impossible to beat build quality

Fujifilm has really elevated their game with the X100F, building it out of the most high-quality construction components of available bar none. This is a camera that feels a little bit heavy in the hand, especially for a compact camera, but any serious enthusiast or photography professional will tell you that this is critical – as a slightly heavier camera guarantees more stability while you are shooting photos or video.

The entire unit looks a lot like a vintage Leica without ever actually ripping off that classic design, and it feels premium, looks premium and IS premium across the board. Controls are mounted directly on the top and sides of the camera, are easy to access, and create a really effortless control scheme that is tough to beat.

Final verdict

When all is said and done, there are plenty of different camera options you have the opportunity to pick and choose from. But if you’re serious about spending your money wisely on a full-blown professional digital camera even if you aren’t actually a professional – but don’t want to spend the $3000-$5000 or more than most professional grade DSLR cameras command these days – the Fujifilm X100F is going to be PERFECT for you.

Access Easy-to-use High Technology  Check Latest Price

This Nikon camera comes with SnapBridge technology which is exclusive to this brand. When you take photos with the camera, your pictures will be transferred to a tablet or smartphone automatically. They’ll be ready to share right away!

SnapBridge technology integrates with Nikon Image Space, which is a site for sharing and storage “in the cloud”. This means that you’ll be able to back up your images and make albums that you may share with others.

The superlative connectivity that this digital camera offers makes it a practical choice and also makes it great fun to use.

More Features of This Model

When you choose this model, you’ll access a DSLR with a DX-format CMOS image sensor. The image sensor has 24.2 megapixels for truly superior resolution. As well, this camera doesn’t have an optical, low-pass filter, which is a good thing.

The lack of this filter is one reason why this camera takes such breathtaking photographs. Cameras which do have optical low-pass filters tend to take softer images, as the filters cause the cameras to lose a portion of their resolution.

As well, you’ll be pleased to know that this design is quite compact. It doesn’t weigh too much, either, so it’s simple to use and tote around.

The Nikon D3400 is a camera which is appropriate for every level of skill. When you choose this model, you may utilize the camera’s built-in and ultra-modern “guide mode” in order to learn the art and science of photography while you take pictures!

Also, this DSLR features Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Pros and Cons of This Model

We love the compact, lightweight design of this camera. Also, we like its long battery life and we’re thrilled that it offers such excellent auto-focus performance for single shots. In addition, the connectivity features of this DSLR are definitely right on the cutting-edge. For its mid-range price tag, it does offer a lot of bang for the buck.

In terms of drawbacks, this model comes with a liquid crystal display (LCD) screen which doesn’t feature touch operation. As well, the display screen is a bit reflective, which we don’t love.

Now, let’s talk about the lenses which are compatible with this model…

Learn About Nikkor Series Lenses    Check Latest Price

Nikkor Series Lenses come directly from Nikon and some lenses from this series are perfect for the Nikon D3400. One lens to consider is the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX. This lens is very compact, it’s not too expensive and it is optically superb. It features a big aperture of f/1.8, so it gathers plenty of light and makes shooting in dimmer conditions easier.

Also, its auto-focus is wonderful as it’s designed to work with this particular camera and other DX cameras from Nikon.

You may blur an entire background with this lens, which will bring your subject into the spotlight. This gives a pro look.

We recommend the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX for portraiture, wedding photography, dim lighting conditions and indoor photo shoots.

If you’re interested in finding a zoom lens from the Nikkor Series, you may want to consider the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX II. It’s less expensive than many zoom lenses with the same focal length and similar apertures, yet provides exceptional performance.

This lens features rock-solid construction. It has substance galore. Its f/2.8 aperture means that it’s an awesome choice for taking pictures when the light is dim, without needing to elevate the ISO to a significant degree. For example, if you want to take pictures in nightclubs, this may be the Nikon D3400-compatible zoom lens that you’ve been looking for!

This lens is recommended for indoor photography, sky photography, night photography, and landscapes. Basically, you’ll be paying for a lens which works well in dimmer lighting.

There are lots of other Nikkor Series lenses which are compatible. The two that we discussed here are great choices, but there are various styles available.

One is the Nikon 40mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Micro, which is a “macro” lens that is ideal for shooting insects and products.

Another lens to consider is the Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S, which is quite similar to the Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX that we discussed above, but with a focal length which is longer…

Now that we’ve covered the key features of this model, let’s talk about its pros and cons…

Pros and Cons of This Model

There is a lot to like about this particular digital camera! For example, it doesn’t have an optical low pass filter, so it is able to capture a higher level of detail. As well, its color rendition is superb and its AF performance is very quick. This camera has a compact design, so it is easy to carry around. It also has the connectivity features that most modern photographers/videographers want and need. In addition, its powerful battery just keeps going and going, so you’ll find that you don’t need to recharge too often.

In terms of drawbacks, this model doesn’t have a global positioning system (GPS). Also, it’s a bit lacking as far as manual control buttons go. There aren’t as many of these buttons as you might anticipate. Since it does have a smaller body, the controls are a bit cramped.

Now, let’s talk about some sensible lens options for this digital camera…

Lens Options for This Model

This camera doesn’t have a ton of lens options. However, there are a few good choices out there. Today, we’d like to share information about two of the most popular lenses for the Nikon D5600. Both of these lenses come straight from Nikon. However, there are third-party lenses available, too, through companies such as Sigma.

If you want to add a Standard Zoom Lens to this digital camera, you’ll find that the Nikon 18-140 MM Lens is a stellar pick. It performs so well in terms of stabilizing images and promoting sharpness. Also, this particular lens has a very quick AF and it is equipped with an internal focusing mechanism which doesn’t get noisy while video footage is recorded.

As well, it has a wonderful VR system. However, the lens doesn’t have a VR mode which is active, as some costlier, fancier Nikon lenses do. This sharp lens is a great solution for DSLR and it’s quite affordable. When you buy it, you’ll find that it fulfills around ninety-nine percent of your typical shooting requirements.

If you’re interested in buying a standard prime lens for the D5600, you’ll find that the Nikon 35mm F1.8 is a practical option. It’s one of the premier standard prime lenses that this company produces and it’s designed to be a perfect match for DX-format DSLRs.

This lens is a 35mm style which isn’t super-pricey. When you use it, you’ll access superior sharpness at all aperture settings. As well, the color will be gorgeous and contrast will be exceptional. Also, you’ll find that this lens dramatically minimizes chromatic aberration and lens distortion. If you want better pictures in low lighting, this lens is well worth a closer look.

This Camera Earns High Ratings

If you want a digital camera which produces amazing images and video, and also allows you to link to your smartphone or tablet, then you’ll benefit from selecting the Nikon D5600. This DX-format DSLR will allow you to look through pictures while it’s in playback mode. It will also give you access to a time-lapse movie feature so that you may convert slow-mo footage into high-speed action!

As well, it’s a comfortable camera to use and carry. Since it has plenty of new features that its predecessor, the D5300, lacked, it’s a great new addition to the Nikon line of cameras. Also, you’ll love the user-friendliness of this design and you’ll have some impressive lens options if you want to invest in extra lenses for this popular digital camera.

You may buy the camera body only or buy the body with 18-140mm, 18-55mm or 18-55mm + 70-300mm.

If you have been looking to purchase one Canon’s amazing “budget full-frame digital cameras”, you’ve likely stumbled across the two top options they have in the space – the Canon 6D and the 70D.

And while both of these cameras seem pretty similar on the surface, only just a little bit of digging will tell you that nothing could be further from the truth. These cameras are as different as they can be while still taking advantage of the amazing technology that Canon has been able to shoehorn into these full frames.

If you are serious about getting your hands on a top-flight DSLR camera, your choice is going to come down to picking between the Canon 70D vs 6D. They are just that special!

Here is just a little bit of inside information to help you make the choice easier.

Here’s how the Canon 6D and 70D are similar

Before we get into really breaking down how these cameras are completely different entities, and why you’ll want to really try and focus the efforts of your search on these differences when choosing between them, it’s important that we make sure you realize that they do in fact share some similarities.

For example, they share relatively the same size and form factor. The 6D is just a little bit on the heavier side of things, but other than that they are pretty much the same dimensions. On top of that, the control scheme for operating these digital cameras is nearly identical, the LCD screen is the exact same resolution as one another, and both of these have internal Wi-Fi connectivity that allows you to completely control the device from your smartphone if you’d like.

Canon 6D Video Sample @ 1080p

Canon 70D Video Sample @ 1080p

Of course, there are definitely some differences as well…

Breaking down how these two Canon cameras are different. Obviously, if you’re reading a Canon 6D vs 70D breakdown, you’re coming here to look at how these two cameras platforms are different from one another.

Well, you’re going to find that they are completely different animals – even if they share quite a few similarities that we’ve already spent time detailing.
For starters, the 70D has a touch-sensitive screen and offers extreme articulation as far as the LCD readout is concerned. A lot of people find this to be very beneficial, especially when you are shooting images from odd angles.

On top of that, the 70D has a pop-up flash that you have the opportunity to trigger with your smartphone, though you’ll probably want to go with the 6D because of its ability to add an external flash to the platform for next to no extra investment.

Of course, the 70D has a shutter button close to the AF cluster that allows to better control inconsistency of images when you are shooting “freehand”, though you certainly aren’t going to find the 6D to be difficult to control by any stretch of the imagination.

The 6D camera also has built-in GPS tracking and geo-tagging in the metadata for all of the images taken, a big bonus for those that want to become “Instagram Famous”. You can purchase an external GPS device for your 70D, that’s something extra that you’ll have to carry around in your gear bag.

Canon EOS 6D vs 70D – In Conclusion

Canon EOS 6D

  • Excellent image quality on par to more expensive full-frame DSLRs (including the 5D Mark III); Responsive all-around performer; Superior HD video-shooting chops; Built-in Wi-Fi with remote control and sharing features, Built-in GPS and geotagging.

  • Lacks a built-in, pop-up flash; No external headphone jack; Rather basic 11-point autofocus system; Mediocre burst speed.

Canon EOS 70D

  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF delivers full-time continuous autofocus (with phase detect at every pixel in framing area) for video and Live View still shooting; Full HD (1080p) video recording with pro-level features and quality; Improved resolution and good high ISO performance; Excellent Wi-Fi remote shooting with full exposure controls; 3-inch articulating LCD touchscreen.

  • Image quality only improved slightly over 60D; Dynamic range still lags behind competing models. It also may not feature enough upgrades to convince people to step up from 60D.

Final verdict

At the end of the day, choosing between the 6D and the 70D is going to be pretty easy if you focus on the kinds of images that you are hoping to take, the kinds of settings that you imagine yourself taking photos in, and what you want to get out of your new camera in the first place

Focus on those details and the Canon 6D vs 70D debate becomes easy to navigate.

Buying Guide: Some of the Cheapest 4K Cameras in 2016 and 2017

Cheap 4k Camera Introduction

With the popularity of home videos and new 4k capable playback devices being released – from TV’s, Smartphones and Home Entertainment systems – it’s only natural that the market for affordable 4K, or Ultra HD cameras are also expanding.

But with 4k cameras being relatively new to the market, prices are still high compared to similar models which can’t shoot in 4k. We review the current market to find if it’s possible to buy an affordable 4K camera for $500-$1,000.

As new models are released – we’ll update our list so its always up to date.

Best 4K Mirrorless Camera

sony_alpha_a6300_mirrorless_digital_camera_with_16-50mm_lensSony’s Alpha a6300 was only released in March 2016 but has already received DP Reviews Gold award and reached #1 Best Seller status on Amazon.

What makes this one of the best 4k cameras on the market? For starters, there’s the world’s fastest Auto Focus speed (0.05 sec.) so you won’t ever miss that perfect shot again.

Forget about external 4k the a6300 support for internal UHD 4K30 & 1080p120 functionality. The a6300 uses the full 6K width of its sensor to sample video, which is then downsized to 4K. The quality is excellent, as are the supporting tools. The 1080p footage isn’t particularly special but the 100mbps 4K footage in XAVC S is very good.

4K Daylight Sample Recording

With its mirrorless chassis owners have the option to choose whichever lens suits their still photography preference.

Its Weather-Sealed Magnesium Alloy Body is a nice improvement over the previous a6000 chassis.

Our only complaint is the slightly ‘clunky’ user interface with no touchscreen display – but considering the 4k recording quality, autofocus capability and live feed bursts at 8 fps that’s something we can live with quite easily.

Second Choice – 4K Mirrorless

If you are looking to do buy one of the best 4k cameras, we highly recommend the ¾ inch chassis Panasonic’s. Not only are their models capable of producing brilliant quality videos, they are also very affordable compared to the top range Sony units.

Panasonic has very high ratings across the buyer review sites like Digital Photography Review and Amazon. With their highly rated G7 model priced in the $500 range – they make a great family video camera without breaking the bank.

Panasonic’s G7 model is a popular micro-four-thirds still camera design, offers solid still-photography as well as 4K and HD video options.

Without question, the G7’s stand-out feature is its video capability. It’s not just that it offers 4K but that it also offers a good range of support tools and features to make it easier to shoot video (even if you stick to 1080p). In addition to focus peaking and zebra, the G7 also offers a flip-out screen with on-screen touch controls (to avoid the sound and vibration of using the camera’s control dials), and a mic socket for recording better quality sound.

This footage is taken from a crop of the sensor, just as happens with the more expensive Panasonic GH4.

The G7 offers full exposure control during video shooting, though Auto ISO is only available in P, A and S modes, meaning you can’t set aperture and shutter speed then let the camera maintain brightness. It can autofocus during recording and is generally pretty good at not wobbling too much and destroying the resultant footage, but you still tend to get better results with the manually-focused footage.

Best 4K Action Cam

If you’re looking for an affordable 4k action cam, the Sony FDR-X1000V/W 4K Action Cam narrowly pips the GoPro Hero4, and it’s usually $100 cheaper.

  • Professional 4K (3840 x 2160) video recording with up to 240p HD / 120p HD
  • SteadyShot(TM) image stabilization works from bikes to aerial shot and more
  • Control up to 5 Action Cam via phone1 or LiveView(TM) Remote (Sold Separately)
  • Splash-proof body with universal tripod mount
  • Built-in stereo mic for quality sound with wind noise reduction
  • Automatically creates highlight video in MP4 from multiple clips
  • Loop recording prevents running out of memory card
  • Live stream your video via Ustream
  • Advanced manual control allows flexibility in movie expression
  • Ultra-wide up to 170° pro quality f/2.8 bright ZEISS® lens

Sony FDR-X1000V/W Sample video

We rate the Sony X1000V higher than the GoPro Hero4 for a few reasons.

  • No time limit on 4K shooting and no issues overheating causing the device to shut down.
  • Reviews stating better image quality (although, maybe only marginally)
  • Sony has also developed a better menu system to that of the GoPro Hero.

Only drawbacks for the Sony.

  • The biggest issue is battery life at maybe 25 minutes of recording with a fully charged battery. On the plus side, the Sony will accept a USB battery pack for an extended run time but must be able to supply 1.5 amps minimum.
  • Also, the Sony has a built-in tripod socket, as does the UW housing.

Best 4K Camcorder

Sony 4K HD Video Recording FDRAX33 Handycam Review

Sony’s FDRAX33 camcorder is really a video camera with photography as an add-on. For the best still image performance, it would be better to buy one of Panasonic’s highly rated G7 series.

  • Capture 4k/24p/30p video that far exceeds HD resolution
  • ZEISS® lens w/ Balanced Optical SteadyShotTM image stabilization
  • Direct Pixel Read Out for smooth edges and color gradation
  • Versatile shooting w/ XAVC STM3, AVCHD®, and MP4 codecs
  • 0.27″ EVF (201K) and touch screen 3″ Xtra Fine LCDTM (921K)

Sony FDRAX33 Sample 4K Video

Sony FDRAX33 Sample 1080p Video

Build construction and design is beautiful and as usual for Sony very high quality. It’s pretty heavy for its size, but for the footage is phenomenal.

If you’re used to older HDV cams, it won’t bother you. The 3.0 LCD is beautiful, the OLED viewfinder is gorgeous, it has every possible manual control you could want (all of them being independent).

The Wi-Fi function is pretty handy. Either stream directly from your Handycam whilst recording. Otherwise, transfer files via Wi-Fi to your laptop and upload to your storage facility. It’s very easy to shoot with Sony’s well-designed auto mode.

I also really like that besides the touchscreen LCD, it has MANY physical buttons for manual controls!

Sony hasn’t included an AC power adapter to bring the price down. Charging with the FDRAX33 base package needs to be done with the battery in your Handycam. Look for the battery pack upgrade model if this will be an issue for you.

If you want to record at 4K 100Mbps you’ll need to buy a UHS-I U3 or higher SDXC memory card. Shooting at 4K 60Mbps requires a Class 10 or higher SDXC memory card.

Best 4K Smartphone

apple iphone 6s

Apple’s powerful duo of iPhone 6S Plus and 6S phones represent the latest in the company’s iPhone product line. Holding position as Apple’s ‘flagship’ phones both models include 4K ultra HD video recording in addition to a 12 MP photosensor.

Of course, it’s also expected the new iPhone 7 will be released in late 2016, so currently the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus pairing are the only IOS platform smartphones with native 4K video shooting capability.

Check out the beautiful 4K video shot on an Apple iPhone 6S to see the video quality possible via a phone.

Furthermore, they can record 4K UHD video at 30 frames per second, 1080p video recording at 120 fps and 720p HD video recording at an impressive 240 fps. It’s also worth mentioning that these smartphones have already been by videographers to film documentaries in 4K UHD. So it’s safe to say they’ve proven their place as a reliable 4K recording device.

How To Choose an Affordable 4K Camera

When planning an upgrade to a 4K capable camera, the first question to ask yourself is: “Will you also need to take still images?”. If the answer is ‘yes’, go for a mirrorless or DSLR camera. If you only intend to record video, with occasional still photography – a 4K camcorder will be your ideal (and cheapest) option.

In our guide of the cheapest 4K cameras – we break the list of available devices into three categories – Camcorders, Mirrorless and Action cams.

If you want to skip our analysis and get straight to which model is best for your 4k video camera – check out each category in the table.

Mirrorless cameras are one of the cheapest ways to buy a 4K camera. Generally priced between $500 – $1500, they take high-quality pictures and 4K video recording is excellent. Camcorders are priced in the $1500 range, and still, offer one of the cheapest ways to get a 4K camera – albeit with limited still image capability. We recommend mirrorless cameras unless you are a keen photographer. The fact they don’t include a viewfinder or interchangeable lens won’t affect most buyers. Our pick for the best affordable action cam, the Sony FDR-X1000V/W 4K  is another option under $500, but the battery life shooting 4K is limited in comparison to the others.

A DSLR allows a camera with interchangeable lenses and a viewfinder (entry-level mirrorless cameras don’t have viewfinders) and, at the other end of the scale, almost all professional sports, press and wildlife photographers choose full-frame DSLRs over every other camera type. We haven’t included any DSLR cameras in out top list due to the cost, even the cheapest versions are $2,000.

DSLR Camera reviews
Looking to buy a new digital SLR or upgrade your current camera but confused by all the models available? Well sit back and let us guide you through the leading models with our selection of the best DSLRs of 2016.

From beginner friendly DSLRs to mid-level enthusiast and advanced professional models, our definitive list of DSLRs for each price bracket will help you to find the perfect camera.

Best DSLR Camera for Beginners – Canon Rebel T5

Canon Rebel T5 reviewCanon’s Rebel T5 or EOS 1200D model as it’s called in the United Kingdom is the latest in the manufacturer’s entry-level range. It offers high-end specs including an amazing 18-megapixel image delivered by its CMOS sensor paired with Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor. Also included are an LCD screen and viewfinder.

Perhaps the most appealing feature is the low price, with the Rebel T5 currently available for under $500 with 18-55mm lens.

Canon’s T5 is our choice as the best camera currently available for DSLR buyers on a tight budget. Our only criticism is the low-resolution LCD screen. But considering all the other features included such as outstanding ISO high performance, a free Android or iPhone companion app which includes instruction guides, tutorials, and troubleshooting tips, this is the best entry-level camera for the money.

Best DSLR Camera under $500 – Nikon D3300

If your budget can handle $500 the Nikon D3300 represents a great choice within the entry-level DSLR market.Nikon D3300 review

The D3300 features an improved resolution compared to Canon’s T5, up to 24.3MP making it nearly the same as professional DSLRs. A leading feature for the Nikon D3300 is the 5fps continuous shooting speed which no other model at this price range can offer.

If you are looking for more sophistication in your entry-level DSLR, the D3300 model offers an impressive amount of performance and the opportunity to expand into Nikon’s market-leading accessories range.

Nikon’s D3300 is our pick as the best DSLR under $500. The camera makes a perfect choice for entry-level photographers. Our only complaint is the slow autofocus in live view mode. But with other outstanding features such as the impressive 24.3MP resolution, smooth HD 1080/60p video recording, as well as excellent battery life and light portable body, we love the Nikon D3300 and think you will too.

Best Mid-Range DSLR – Sony A77

Sony A77 reviewDespite being on the market for almost four years, Sony’s A77 specs still stack up well against any camera on the market.

True photography enthusiasts wouldn’t class the A77 as DSLR due to the lack of an optical viewfinder; Sony calls the camera a Single Lens Translucent (SLT) camera. The benefit of a design without a viewfinder the camera is able to shoot much faster; the A77 is capable of a top continuous shooting speed of 12fps – the highest in its class. Sony’s engineers have included a high res 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder to make up for the lack of optical viewfinder.

Internally Sony has included a very high-resolution 24MP CMOS sensor, with a standard sensitivity range between 100-16,00 that can be lowered to ISO 50.
The Sony A77 with 16-50mm lens for under $800 makes for a great mid-range DSLR.

The best DSLR for photography enthusiasts, Sony’s A77 includes a good combination of high-end technology and good old-fashioned manual control. The A77 comes into its own when taking every day stills in a wide range of situations, as well as casual sports and action photography. Enthusiasts looking for high ISO light photography, and fast action sports shots shouldn’t buy the A77.

Best DSLR for Taking Images – Nikon D610

Nikon D610 reviewNikon’s latest camera in its famed 600 series is the D610 model. Nikon’s DSLR has a very good build quality and good ergonomics for taking brilliant shots. Image quality is superb, with consistent metering and white balance results. The D610 is perfect for photography enthusiasts who often shoot at high ISO or shallow depth-of-field. Images provide outstanding high ISO performance in both JPEG and Raw format.

A common complaint about the previous D600 model was oil and dust spots on the sensor which have been resolved in the D610’s design. For under $2,000 with a 24-85mm Nikkor lens, the D610 will make a great purchase for any photography enthusiast.

Best DSLR for image quality. The Nikon D610 case is lighter and a less expensive alternative to pro-level DSLRs, with a tough weather-sealed enclosure. The small auto finder compared to its competitors turns some buyers away, but this DSLR is the perfect selection for enthusiasts who shoot at high ISO and want a camera that can handle most shooting situations.

Best DSLR Camera on the Market – Canon EOS 5D Mark III

Canon EOS 5D Mark III reviewWhile this certainly doesn’t come cheap the Canon EOS 5D Mark III is simply one of the best DSLRs models on the market. Canon has designed the 5D Mark III with a great selection video features as well as the ability to take highly detailed raw files. All these advanced shooting options are cased inside an excellent weather-sealed, magnesium alloy case.
At the heart of the 5D Mark III is a 22.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor and the highly rated DIGIC 5+ image processor. Other highlights include a 61-point AF module, extensive ISO 100-25,600 sensitivity range, and Full HD 30P video recording. There is no better way to describe Canon’s 5D Mark III as the best DSLR money can buy.

A leading DSLR for recording video and taking outstanding images, Canon’s EOS 5D will suit photographers who need a versatile DSLR which is capable of taking high-quality results in almost any shooting situations.
